Vivid colors in simple shapes, images of the natural world, and constantly shifting light and color are sources of inspiration and challenge for me. Music was my early window into creative processes. Public schools in Columbus, Ohio in the 1950's offered some art and music, and I first played the cello in seventh grade. My parents supported piano lessons beginning in first grade. I recall an occasional visual art class and gallery visit. I played in an orchestra in high school and college. I took advantage of one art history class and one studio class while at Oberlin College from which I graduated in 1962. I still remember the thrilling and deeply satisfying experience when I first saw the original of Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

I completed a Masters in Social Work at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1978. My employment was in public policy, consumer advocacy, and grant making for the state of Michigan. I directed two federal–state programs in aging and disabilities. My work with non–profit advocacy organizations opened additional creative paths.

After being introduced to wheel throwing by some California friends, I took several pottery classes at the Ann Arbor Arts Association. I loved the textures, the challenges of glazing, and the thrill of kiln openings. Later, I started watercolor classes at Michigan State University’s Evening College studying with Barbara Hodge who introduced me to the work of Emil Nolde. I was excited by the surprises that spring from working in watercolors.

In the late 1990's, I visited northern New Mexico to see the light and red rocks that Georgia O’Keeffe painted. Captivated, I built my home here. I rise daily to experience the day’s light on the lake, sky, rocks, and unique vegetation. What a gift to be living among the red rocks and prismatic earth tones of Triassic and Jurassic geological formations within the arms of Cerro Pedernal. The Pedernal is the distinctive flat-top, nearly 10,000 foot mountain in the Colorado plateau of northern New Mexico that is home of creative feminine spirits. To my delight, I discovered that I settled in the midst of many talented artists whom I count among my friends.

My work can be seen at The Tin Moon Gallery, Abiquiu, NM and Regalos de Abiquiu, Abiquiu, NM.
